It is with a bit of a heavy heart that we write this introduction. Glenys, our wonderful Production Specialist, is retiring soon.
After eight years here and day after day of hard work and happy smiles it definitely feels like saying goodbye to one of the family. With that said, we hope to see her again in the years ahead, and can’t wait to meet the new puppy!
What does your daily work involve?
Bagging and packing bird and small animal products.
How long have you worked at Topflite?
I’ve been here for 8 years now.
Has the work or the company changed much since you started?
It sure has – I sometimes can't believe how much things have grown so quickly! I think of how we used to go to Rosedale and there would be 4-5 pallets on the floor ready for dispatch and that would be a big day. How we’ve gone from almost nothing to where we are now has been amazing. It really is a wonderful place to work and I take my hat off to everyone for the growth it has achieved.
Do you have a favourite Topflite product?
I’d say the coconuts and the cake feeders. It’s pretty cool watching the birds fight over them.
Do you have any pets?
Not currently. However, I am hopefully going to get a puppy next year, a wee mini schnauzer. I've got my eye on a salt and pepper coloured one. I’m not sure why exactly I like this breed so much – there’s just something about them that makes me love their hairy little faces
What’s your favourite animal?
Fantails. While they're quiet little birds they are also cheeky and friendly and there's just something cool and magical about them,. I've even had one end up on my hand!
Where’s your favourite place in New Zealand?
The Mackenzie Country. It's a totally different atmosphere up there and there’s just something about it that draws you to the area. I've been spending time there since 1985 and it holds lots of special memories for myself and my family. It's truly an amazing part of the country.
Outside of work what are your interests?
I like to have a nice garden and to get my hands dirty! While there’s nothing special with my garden there are some nice perennials, smaller shrubs and a few natives there too. I always appreciate the chance to spend time with my family – and sitting down with a good book.
