Name: William McGrory

Position: Key Accounts Manager

How long have you worked at Topflite?

Almost 9 years

What does your daily work involve?

I started with Topflite when Jock contracted me as a Business Consultant to assist him in growing the company. He had a great vision for Topflite and just needed some guidance along the journey.

As the business grew there were a whole host of tasks that I picked up. The business has changed so much in the last 8 years but thankfully still has that wholesome family business atmosphere. My current role is to manage the Key Accounts in Auckland and look after all our customers north of Hamilton.

What’s the best part of the job?

Over the years with Topflite I have loved the variation of work and the pleasure in watching the business morph from a pretty good on-farm business add-on to a strong well-respected, professional  and successful company still with all the family values.

What is one thing you’d like people to know about Topflite?

I don’t think anyone should underestimate the strength of the family business culture. It is an incredible story that makes for good reading and just shows once again what can be achieved with passion, vision and determination.

Do you have any pets?

We have had a number of pets over the last 20 years including cats, fish and dogs. We are currently just getting over the tragic loss of our little two-year old Benji – a gorgeous Shihtzu/Maltese (often just a Shiht!)

What’s your favourite animal?

Definitely a dog

Where’s your favourite place in New Zealand?

Tauranga Bay, Northland

Outside of work what are your interests?

I play golf but not often enough and therefore badly; we enjoy a good bush walk; but mostly now we enjoy getting out in our new motorhome and exploring the country

Is there any other information you’d like to have included?

This comes at a time when I am just about to pass the last of my duties over to a new team member so that Colleen and I can finally start to relax into the next phase of our busy lives as “grey nomads” and have more time to enjoy the things we have worked so hard for.

I would like to say a fond farewell to all the people I have met along the way and a huge thank-you for making my Topflite journey so enjoyable.
