Sprouted seeds are a superfood for birds, and now with the addition of canary seed, our popular feed just got a whole lot better. Grown in the fertile soils of North Otago, this high-quality canary seed has made Soak & Sprout a market leader.

When a seed is soaked and begins to sprout, stored nutrients are unlocked, effectively increasing the amount of nutrients available, including amino acids and antioxidants. Soak & Sprout is ideally suited to all birds including small canaries and finch varieties. To read more check out how sprouted feed for birds can make a big difference.

Sprouting Instructions:
1. RINSE well until water runs clear
2. SOAK for 8-12 hours in a bowl, well covered in water (3 x water to sproutable seed mix)
3. Drain, then rinse with fresh water & ½ teaspoon of apple cider/white vinegar or sterilising powder. Apple cider vinegar or sterilising powder in the rinsing water will help to reduce bacteria
4. Spread sprouts in a colander, bag or dish and place in a dark, well ventilated area
5. RINSE well several times a day
6. Sprouts are ready for use when tails first begin to appear (in 3-5 days)
7. Rinse well and allow to dry off before serving

NOTES
• Luke warm water is best for rinsing to remove by-products generated by sprouting
• Maximum nutritional goodness is obtained when the sprout first appears
• Mix with your bird’s favourite food for the first one or two days until they adjust to new type of feed
• Refrigerate unused sprouts for 1-2 days. Rinse daily until used
• For extra goodness add some fresh fruit and vegetables to the sprouted seed
• NEVER feed old or spoiled sprouts. Sprouts should smell sweet and earthy, not sour
• ‘Soak & Sprout’ is a combination of whole & kibbled grain. Only the whole grain will sprout.  The kibbled grain will become a delicious mash
