Show winners flying high

The winners were announced at the Topflite New Zealand National Bird Show in July, this big Hamilton event the grand finale after many months of hard work and loving care from breeders around the country.

The team were impressed with the turnout and the quality on show from the various breeders.

We had the opportunity to give a presentation on everything that’s been going on behind the scenes and some of the new product developments and got some great feedback from the breeders in attendance. This feedback is always incredibly valuable to our ongoing research and development.

Across the four days of the event there was always plenty going on. Over Thursday and Friday the eagle-eyed expertise of the judges checked their assessments and made their decisions. On Saturday and Sunday the doors were opened to the public who got to make their own choices on which bird was their favourite.

One popular winner was 82-year old Arthur Billings, who won the Roller Canary section in his first year of showing birds. Young and old had their time to shine at the Hamilton racecourse.

“The venue was excellent,” says Topflite’s Greg Webster. “Everyone enjoyed themselves and the event team did a great job of the show and the awards dinner.”

This dinner was a thoroughly entertaining and informative event, with Te Rader entertaining the crowd with a number of insightful comments. The popular comedian and TV personality spoke about his upbringing on a farm and why it was good to see a greater emphasis being placed on sourcing local produce. We couldn’t agree more.

All in all it was a very busy few days for all of us at Topflite behind the scenes and it was great catching up with everyone. Thanks to all of those who made it such a fantastic occasion.
