Bird of the Year 2022

Bird of the Year 2022

Coming soon to a tree, beach, or mountain near you...

It’s that time of the year when we are called upon to do our civic duty, electing a local representative to lead us confidently into the future. Yes – it’s Bird of the Year time!

After a somewhat controversial and quite batty result in 2021, voting for Bird of the Year 2022 begins on Monday 17 October and closes on Sunday the 30th. The grand winner will be announced on Monday 31st of October.

Now for some medium-sized news about the Little Blue from us. After years loyal service to the Kororā (and a short fling with our big-headed friend the Tomtit) we missed out on securing the campaign rights this year.

While there was obviously some initial disappointment around the office, we’re now looking forward to supporting the election in its entirety. We love all the birds (and the bats) of New Zealand and can’t wait to share more of this love via all the wonderful campaigns ahead.

With the Soar Initiative we’ve expanded the scope of our support and we hope that the Bird of the Year campaign continues to raise awareness of everything’s that’s needed to ensure our precious birdlife can thrive.

Get involved with your favourite bird while thinking more about what you can do to help make NZ a better place overall for birds. Be it supporting great local and national charities, helping restore native bird habitats or planting more trees in your backyard, every small effort counts. Let’s make every bird a winner in 2022!
